my philosophy

My philosophical foundation is based upon what I consider to be the THREE greatest events in human history.

1. Jesus christ

The first great event in the history of mankind happened 2000 years ago when God became a man, Jesus Christ, in order to rescue fallen mankind from their hopeless condition by standing in the place of all who would believe, suffering the punishment they deserve for their sins. Christ taught for only three years before He was crucified, yet in that brief time He established a foundational set of eternal principles that literally changed the world. These principles exalted the virtues which distinguish men from beasts, civil society from barbarism, and right from wrong. Christ’s teaching elevated the quality of life for all mankind, regardless of nationality, status, or station in life.

2. the reformation

1500 years later came the second greatest event when a German monk by the name of Martin Luther, tormented by his own sins, found relief in the biblical doctrine of justification by faith. From that came what we call “liberty of conscience,” which covers all ethics and values a human being cherishes, whether of religious nature or not.  This doctrine holds that there are no admissible limitations to this freedom, as long as personal convictions are not imposed on others and do not harm them. It was this foundational belief which caused Luther to speak out against the established state-church, which had oppressed all of Europe for a thousand years.

When the argument was made by his peers that such a radical idea would immediately result in utter chaos, Luther boldly replied, “It’ll be worth it!” From this revolutionary concept of “liberty of conscience” the western world was turned on its head, ultimately resulting in the Protestant Reformation, which changed the way people think altogether. No longer would men look to monarchs and despots for their welfare, but would now look to themselves for prosperity, security, and their own general well-being.

3. the founding of America

This new way of thinking ultimately led to the third greatest event in human history—the founding of America. For the first time ever, a free people would govern themselves. In order for this to be successful, it would require a spirit of self-reliance, personal responsibility, and sacrifice. It meant each took care of their own responsibilities as free citizens. It had to be that way if the “great experiment” had any chance at success, for if a man will not be ruled from within, he must be ruled from without.  

The challenges we face today are not unique to Hardin County, but we do have our own share of difficulties trying to deal with a variety of problems such as crime, over-taxation, excessive regulatory mandates, blighted properties, broken families, poverty, and a host of other troubles and concerns. It is my position that these problems have not come about because we don’t throw enough money at them, nor because we don’t have enough county services to deal with them. Neither have our problems come about because the government isn’t big enough to handle them. No, it is my belief that all of these are the result of one issue alone:  

We have forgotten who we are as a people.

Until we recognize our own responsibilities as a free people, government will continue to grow to the point of our dependence upon it. We’re practically there now. Except we harness the beast, it will run wild and consume everyone in its path. What was once freedom has become captivity in a passive prison. Hardin County is no different than any other when it comes to such a threat, and the only way to stay it is through vigilance and the understanding “that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…”

what must happen now

If elected County Commissioner, I intend to concentrate on the following:

1.  Open Communication with the Citizens of Hardin County

  • Promote a Spirit of Volunteerism
  • Promote Conservative Values through Education and Opportunity
    • Elementary through College Level
    • 4-H, FFA, and the Hardin County Fair
    • Business and Service Organizations

2.  Reduce Taxation as much as possible

  • Creatively Manage what is already in place

3.  Advocate for Hardin County

  • On both State and Federal Levels
